I think you are short of RAM : Thot uses about 13Mo of Ram when starting so
your x server swapped and that's the reason why it was so slow.

You certainely did not comple the thot schemas (cd to /home/rick/Thot/objects
and type make schemas). You do not need to set the THOTDIR variable. We are
instessed in experiences in using thot with lesstif, not know it compiles but
we didn't really use it for now. If you have some results or identify problems
using thot with the motif clone please report us. Thnks in advance.
